Scope and Content

This series consists of records, papers and publications donated by Dr. Margaret NG Ngoi Yee. It contains her correspondence with the Governors and various government officials, the legal sector, different organizations and private citizens; handwritten notes and journals; proposals and study reports as well as Sessional Papers of the Legislative Council, invitation cards, newspaper clippings and publications. The topics covered are diverse including amendment of bills and ordinances, juridical reviews, legislative consultations, political campaigns and elections, government policies and reforms, and court cases, etc.
A considerable part of the donation relates to the interpretations of the Basic Law and the Right of Abode, the Political Officials Accountability System, the Lehman Brothers Minibond issue, changes of the Professional Indemnity Scheme and amendments to the Land Titles Ordinance, Patent Ordinance, Conveyancing and Property Ordinance and the Interception of Communication and Surveillance Ordinance.
The series also includes a set of invitation cards from the British Government, the Hong Kong Government and the Chinese Government for attending receptions, dinners and ceremonies held before and after the Handover Ceremony of Hong Kong in 1997 and two sets of typed manuscripts written by Mr. Patrick YU Shuk-siu in the 1990s.
