The records in this series relate to the organization and work of the Legislative Council Panel concerning the administration of justice and legal services. These include regular and special Panel meetings, joint meetings with other Panels and visits to courts.
The files comprising this series contain agenda, memoranda, minutes, Legislative Council papers, information papers, briefing notes, draft speeches, correspondence, photocopies of press cuttings, judgments, printed reports and extracts from the records of House Committee meetings.
Among the subjects covered are localization policy in the Legal Department and Department of Justice, policy on briefing out of prosecution work to private counsels, selection of jurors, right of abode, the labour tribunal, reciprocal enforcement of judgments between HKSAR and the Mainland, legal aid, solicitors' rights of audience, bilingual legal system, legal education, removal of illegal immigrants.
