Scope and Content
The records in this series relate to the organization and work of the Panels established by UMELCO, OMELCO and OMLEGCO (Office of Members of the Legislative Council) and subsequently by the Legislative Council relating to housing.

The series documents regular meetings of the Panels, in addition to joint meetings with other Panels and meetings of subcommittees, official visits by Panel members and representations.

The records cover a wide range of subjects within the broad housing policy area. These include: squatter clearance, home-ownership scheme, asbestos in private and public buildings, licensing real estate agents, housing demand and supply, landslips, reorganization of Housing Authority, rooftop structures, public housing rent policy, demolition of cottage areas and rent control under the Landlord and Tenant (Consolidation) Ordinance.

The types of documents contained in the files include agenda, notes of meetings, memoranda, letters, information papers, publications, submissions, Legislative Council briefs, plans (drawings) and photographs.

Physical Description Records in this series are files in both hard and soft cover manila folders. Enclosures are attached using Treasury tags.

Most records for the period between 1988 and 1994 were originally held in lever-arch files. The contents are hole-punched in the top left hand corner suggesting that they were originally maintained in manila folders using Treasury tags and were subsequently transferred to lever-arch files. For records preservation, the Archives has replaced the lever-arch files with hard cover manila folders.
