Scope and Content
The records in this series relate to the organization and work of the Panels established by UMELCO, OMELCO and OMLEGCO (Office of Members of the Legislative Council) and subsequently by the Legislative Council relating to transport. Included also in the series are records relating to meetings with the Mass Transit Railway Corporation from 1976 to 1979 that pre-date the establishment of the Transport Panel.

The records document regular and special Panel meetings as well as joint meetings with other Panels, representations and submissions by members of the public and non-government bodies, and official visits made by Panel members.

The subjects covered by the records include: the Mass Transit Railway, bus fare increases, taxi licences and boundary restrictions, electronic road pricing, public transport for the handicapped, seat belt legislation, relationship of the Government and the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation, cross-harbour tunnels, overloading of container vehicles, ferry services, public light bus policy, traffic noise and congestion, introduction of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) taxis and Lantau North South Road Link.

Among the types of documents contained in the files are notes of meetings, memoranda, information papers, press cuttings, agenda, briefing papers, extracts from notes on In-house meetings, maps and plans, publications, reports and discussion papers.

Physical Description Records in this series are files in both hard and soft cover manila folders. Enclosures are attached using Treasury tags.

Records for the period between 1976 and 1995 were originally held in lever-arch files. The contents are hole-punched in the top left hand corner suggesting that they were originally maintained in manila folders using Treasury tags and were subsequently transferred to lever-arch files. For records preservation, the Archives has replaced the lever-arch files with hard cover manila folders.
